The self-incriminating evidence in the Scofield Reference Bible

Here's a very simple explanation about when the 70th week of Daniel 9 happened. Just pick up a 1917 Scofield Reference Bible (called erroneously the "old" Scofield by many - the real "old" Scofield would be a 1909 edition). We'll introduce 5 pieces of evidence. Exhibit #1

(Page 915) Note the third decree is dated 458 B.C.

Exhibit #2

(Page 1045) Note the starting date of 26 A.D. Also note the phrase "The
events recorded in this book cover a period of 7 years."

Exhibit #3

(Page 1069) Note the ending date of 33 A.D. This is the end of the book
of Mark.

Exhibit #4

(Page 1114) Note the starting date of 26 A.D. Again, note the phrase "The
events recorded in this book cover a period of 7 years."

Exhibit #5

(Page 1146) Note the ending date of 33 A.D. This is the end of the book
of John.

Time to Do Some Figuring

I'll now show you how simple it is to figure out when the 70th week started and ended.

  458 B.C.
- 1 B.C.
-----------
  457 years

    1 A.D.
- 1 B.C.
-----------
1 year (there is no year "0")

   26 A.D.
- 1 A.D.
-----------
   25 years

  457 + 1 + 25 = 483 years

   33 A.D.
- 26 A.D.
-----------
    7 years

  483 + 7 = 490 years

From 458 B.C. to 26 A.D. was 483 years. That's the same thing as saying 69 times 7, which is equal to 483. So the 69th week of Daniel 9 ended in 26 A.D. and the 70th week of Daniel 9 started in 26 A.D.

From 26 A.D. to 33 A.D. was 7 years. There's your 70th week of Daniel 9.

Please note that these were very simple calculations. To see how people try to prove that the 70th week of Daniel is yet future, check out Fuzzy Math: Dispensationalism's 360-Day Year. Also check out Which Decree? if you have time.

If you accept the belief that the 70th week is yet future without checking out the math yourself, then you have no excuse, especially if you are toting a Scofield. Even the Scofield Reference Bible (despite the beliefs of Scofield himself) can be used to disprove the belief that the 70th week of Daniel is future. The antichrist will want people to believe that it is his job to fulfill the 70th week of Daniel 9 with a "peace treaty" when in fact the 70th week started in 26 A.D. and ended 7 years later.

Disclaimer: This is not an argument for preterism. Preterism teaches that Jesus came in 70 A.D. However, Acts 1:8-11 clearly refutes that false belief. Jesus will come just as the disciples were told - visibly and physically.
